Honolulu uses Hawaii Standard Time (HST), ten hours behind UTC, in every season. Hawaii opted out of daylight saving time when the United States standardised it in the 1960s. At 21 degrees north there is little to gain: the longest day of the year in Honolulu is only about two and a half hours longer than the shortest, and the sun sets between roughly 17:50 and 19:15 all year.

The mainland moves; Hawaii does not

Because the rest of the United States changes its clocks, Hawaii’s distance from the mainland shifts twice a year. Los Angeles is two hours ahead of Honolulu in winter and three in summer; New York is five hours ahead in winter and six in summer. A call at 08:00 in Honolulu reaches New York at 13:00 in January but at 14:00 in July, which leaves East Coast offices only a few shared hours.

Half an hour of history, and a day behind Asia

Until June 1947 Hawaii ran ten and a half hours behind Greenwich; the half hour was then dropped to give the present offset. The islands lie east of the International Date Line, so they are almost a full day behind Asia: 09:00 on Monday in Honolulu is 04:00 on Tuesday in Tokyo. Hawaii shares its zone with the western Aleutian Islands of Alaska, which do change their clocks.
