No more clock changes since March 2026

Vancouver moved its clocks forward for the last time on 8 March 2026. British Columbia now stays seven hours behind UTC all year, on what the province simply calls Pacific Time. The legislation dates from 2019, after a public consultation in which a very large majority asked for an end to the twice-yearly change. For years the province waited for the US West Coast to act as well; in March 2026 it went ahead alone.

An hour ahead of Seattle in winter

Seattle, Portland and Los Angeles still put their clocks back in November. In summer Vancouver has the same time as those cities. From the first Sunday of November to the second Sunday of March it is one hour ahead of them, and only two hours behind Toronto and New York instead of three. Alberta passed a similar law in June 2026 and stays on UTC−6, so Calgary remains one hour ahead of Vancouver throughout the year.

Check your devices in the first winter

The first date on which the old and the new rules disagree is 1 November 2026. Phones, computers and browsers take their rules from a time zone database that arrives with software updates. A device that has not been updated since early 2026 will still move back one hour that morning and show the wrong time, and the live clock on this page follows your browser’s data in the same way. If a clock shows Vancouver and Seattle at the same time in December, it is running on the old rules.
